Delhi High Court issued summons to TMC leader Mahua Moitra in the defamation suit filed against her by lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai. 

He has alleged that Moitra has made “defamatory statements” against him on social media as well as print and electronic media.

The court further sought Moitra’s response on Dehadrai’s application seeking interim relief in the suit and listed the matter for further hearing on April 8.

•  Centre Opposes Stay of Election Commissioners Act

The Centre on Wednesday filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court on pleas seeking stay on the CEC and Other Election Commissioners Act, 2023, which dropped Chief Justice of India from selection panel from Election Commissioners. Centre opposing the applications seeking stay on the Act, said that the independence of the Election Commission, or any other organisation or authority, does not arise from and is not attributable to the presence of a judicial member in the Selection Committee.

• Tension Prevails in Rajasthan's Chittorgarh Over Stone Pelting, Injured Man Dies Hours Later

Tension prevailed in a locality in Rajasthan's Chittorgarh where stone pelting allegedly occurred on a religious procession on Tuesday night, leaving around a dozen people injured, officials said. A man, who was given primary treatment, died late night apparently because of heart attack. The incident took place in the Raashmi police station area where a religious procession was being taken out at night. A dispute occurred when some men allegedly raised objection over the procession passing by a mosque.

The Supreme Court has allowed Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee’s request for refraining Enforcement Directorate (ED) from summoning him for probe related to a money laundering case until the completion of the general elections scheduled between April and June.

• Man Held for Killing Son-in-law Over Domestic Discord in Thane

Police have arrested a 55-year-old man for allegedly killing his son-in-law due to domestic discord in Maharashtra's Thane district, an official said on Wednesday. The body of the 38-year-old victim was recovered from the Bhatsa river on March 1 following which a case of accidental death was initially registered, Kulgaon's assistant police inspector Govind Patil said. However, during an investigation following a complaint by the victim's brother, the police got to know that the deceased used to have frequent quarrels with his wife to which the woman's father had objected. The deceased's father-in-law had also unsuccessfully tried to intervene to resolve the issues between the couple.
